Post Doctoral Scholar

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences, seeks a Post Doctoral Scholar to perform independent research in applied biochemistry and drug discovery.  The ideal candidate will have experience with organic chemistry synthesis and the preparation of quinone methide precursors related to the recovery of acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase, as well as the development of novel therapeutic solutions.  Post Doctoral Scholars are expected to lead analyses critical to the funded research program and to take initiative in contributing to the development and design of organic synthesis and bioanalytical tools and experiments.  Duties will include the synthesis of novel compounds and their characterization, presenting results at conferences/workshops, writing manuscripts to publish results in peer-reviewed journals, contributing to the funded research program, assisting with additional extramural funding proposals, mentoring students and supporting group activities through collaborative service work.

Required: Doctoral Degree in chemistry with specialization in organic synthesis and analytical characterization methods as well as tools or related area is required.  Demonstrated experience in acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase research as well as bioanalytical tools for its study is required.  Strong research strengths in analytical spectroscopic and spectrometric analyses are required.

The target starting salary for this position is $61,008.
