Full-time, fixed-term position for 2 years
Base salary will range from $80,448 – $107,104 + 17% Superannuation (Academic Level A)
Based at the Translational Research Institute at our Dutton Park campus
About This Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to drive a new vaccine development program. Reporting to Professor Gabrielle Belz, the successful applicant will take a leadership role in research projects within the Belz research group at the Frazer Institute, Translational Research Institute.
Key projects will explore how the epithelium lining the gut and lungs works to sense and trigger immune cells to drive effector and repair functions. Characterisation experiments will include ELISA, PCR, multicolour flow cytometry, imaging, cutting edge molecular biology (sequencing and epigenetics) and bioinformatics.
As a research focused academic at Level A, you will be supported and guided by more senior academic research staff with the expectation of an increasing degree of autonomy over time. At this level, you will also efficiently manage service and engagement roles and activities.
Key responsibilities will include:
Research: Energetically drive research projects, support applications for competitive research funding, publish in reputable journals and utilize best practice research methodologies.
Supervision and Researcher Development: Assist with supervision of students and provide performance feedback and training to research support staff and supervisees.
Safety: Follow safety protocols and apply safe storage, handling and disposal techniques.
Citizenship and Service: Begin to develop partnerships, engage in internal service roles and committees, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.
About You
Our ideal candidate will possess:
Completion or near completion of a PhD in immunology with bioinformatics/molecular biology/microbiology experience.

Basic understanding of immunology, molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry.
Advanced experience with flow cytometry, PCR, ELISA assays, microbiology, immunology studies, tissue culture, bacterial culture and aseptic technique, laboratory animal handling and procedures, and molecular biology. Skills in bioinformatics would be an advantage.
Ability to quickly acquire new laboratory techniques and to perform them routinely at a high level of accuracy, efficiency and independence.
The ability to plan, execute and interpret research in a semi-independent/independent manner.
Ability to work as a member of a team and high level of inter-personal and communication skills.
Sound knowledge of OH&S guidelines and laboratory safety.
Evidence of contributions towards successfully obtaining external research funding.
Some experience in meaningful internal service roles and contributions towards external activities.
