JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Geiser lab in the Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology at Penn State is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in the area of genomics of fungal plant pathogens, specifically in Fusarium oxysporum. This collaborative project with scientists at the USDA Agricultural Research Service, Oklahoma State University and others will involve identification of genome sequences that are unique to host-specific pathogens, and developing and validating them as diagnostic markers using novel genomic and bioinformatic approaches. This project exploits a dataset consisting of >800 F. oxysporum genomes, which can also be applied to the study of evolutionary patterns that underlie the high levels of phenotypic diversity in this species.
The successful applicant will have a PhD in the life sciences with skill sets that encompass bioinformatics, genomics, mycology, evolutionary biology and plant pathology, with demonstrated creativity and leadership in developing bioinformatics projects. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter including two personal references, a curriculum vitae, as well as any additional materials documenting their relevant experience.
This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire with an excellent possibility of re-funding.
