About the opportunity
The University of Sydney Medical School is the largest provider of vocational medical education in Australasia and is at the forefront of online learning for clinicians. The primary focus is to investigate the role of a platelet subsets in disease pathogenesis and as potential therapeutic targets in clotting diseases, particularly within immune mediated thrombosis. This project involves recruiting immune thrombosis patients from a tertiary referral hospital, multiple modalities of platelet function testing, as well clinical correlation with patient outcomes. The role is suitable for a physician scientist on a part-time basis.
The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow applies and refines their expertise in research methodologies, design and delivery to contribute to the university's standing as a national leader in the discipline. They engage in research either independently or as part of a research team.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
conduct original research independently or as part of a team, focusing on publication, conference presentations, and securing research funding
to support and expand existing research projects in the field of platelet biology and thrombosis within the Platelet and Thrombosis Research Laboratory, ANZAC Research Institute
maintain a research profile, including publication of book chapters, peer-reviewed journal articles, conference and/or seminar papers
develop research collaborations and engage in translational research that result in knowledge or technology transfer leading to commercialisation, improved policy or practice, or enhancement to industry, the profession or community
contribute to applications for competitive research grants or funding to deliver research impact

provide informal mentoring and guidance to lower-level academics and supervise postgraduate research students or projects where appropriate
carry out administrative tasks and contribute to faculty/school meetings
contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled
understand and contribute to furthering the university and faculty/school strategic agenda
contribute expertise and knowledge through communication of scholarship with industry, forums of public debate, organisation of public events, seminars, and conferences
undertake other duties and contribute to projects appropriate within the classification level as required.
About you:
have a PhD in in Biomedical Science with a focus on Platelet Biology
medical degree, FRACP, FRCPA
experience as a Haematologist
developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders.
